"Illyana, what are you, what have you become?"
"You really don't want to know, Stevie."

Illyana Nikolaievna Rasputina -- Illyana Rasputin -- used to be a pretty normal kid. Okay, her beloved big brother was an X-Man, which adds a certain weirdness quotient to any life, but aside from that, she was like any other cheerful little girl from a Soviet collective farm.

Then she fell into a hell dimension. For the outside world, and the X-Men who rescued her, she was rescued within hours. For Illyana, seven years passed.

She's 14 now. A teenager, a mutant, living in America with the X-Men, and trying to figure out who she is and how she fits into a world she's lived half her lifetime outside of. It's an ongoing process.

I wonder, sometimes, what I'd be like had my life been normal and ordinary. I've been torn in so many pieces, I don't know for certain which is the real me. I doubt I ever will. Nothing I can do about it, much as I'd wish otherwise, save try my best with what I have. I suppose, in the final analysis, that's all that can -- or should -- be said about anyone. An ending can also be a beginning.

Illyana is 14 years old. Physically, she's 5'5" (165cm) tall, with a fairly slim and athletic build. She's pale-skinned and blond, with straight long hair and bangs cut straight across. When she's not wearing yellow-and-black superhero spandex, she dresses like a teen from the late 70s/early 80s who doesn't have a particularly adventurous fashion sense. (It's 1983 for her.)

Note for psychics: Illyana doesn't have telepathic/empathic/etc powers, but she does have formidable psychic shields. Psychics can talk to her, and hear replies she's deliberately sending out, but that's it; any deeper thoughts are shielded off. Canonically, even Professor Xavier cannot read her mind.

Characters who can sense magic power may well notice that Illyana has a lot of it, and/or that some of it is demonic in nature. Talk to me if you want more detail, and/or to hash out how something might look in your canon's terms!

Content warning: Illyana comes from a loving and supportive family, buuut she also spent seven years of her childhood in a demonic hell dimension. It was deeply traumatic. Unsurprisingly, she's got a lot of emotional baggage from that. This includes grief and guilt for dead friends, deeply conflicted feelings about her demonic kidnapper/mentor, and a fair dollop of self-loathing.

She's pretty free with the one-sentence version, but will be very reluctant to go into any detail about her experiences there, so it's not likely to come up in conversation. (If it seems likely to, I'll give you a heads-up and you can let me know if you'd rather I steer clear.) In terms of narration, I'm more likely to mention details than she is, but it still won't be very graphic. If you'd like me to avoid even that, let me know, and I can.
